Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been dealt a major blow in the Supreme Court. His plea seeking extension of interim bail was rejected. The court registry refused to entertain Kejriwal's application. Kejriwal has been given liberty to approach the trial court seeking regular bail. In such circumstances, Kejriwal's application does not merit hearing. Now Chief Minister Kejriwal has to surrender on June 2. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Deepankar Dutta granted interim bail on May 10 and asked Kejriwal to surrender in Tihar Jail on June 2. On May 17, the bench had reserved judgment on the ED challenging the legality of his arrest in the PMLA case. On Tuesday, another bench of the Supreme Court refused to hear Kejriwal's plea and asked him to approach Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. What did Kejriwal say in the petition? Arvind Kejriwal had requested the Supreme Court to extend his interim bail by 7 days to undergo several medical tests due to sudden weight loss of 6 to 7 kg. In a petition filed on May 26, Kejriwal had said that he wanted to surrender on June 9 instead of the court-fixed date of June 2 to return to jail. The petition stated that his weight had decreased by 6 to 7 kg and his ketone level was very high, which was a sign of serious kidney, heart disease and cancer. It has been stated in the petition that the chief minister should undergo some medical tests including a PET-CT scan. Detailed images of body organs and tissues are taken with a PET-CT scan, i.e. Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography test. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 to campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, and ordered him to return to jail on June 2. Kejriwal was arrested in a money laundering case related to excise policy irregularities. The court had ordered Kejriwal to surrender on June 2.
