Kanwar Yatra: Name plate controversy to reach Supreme Court, Yogi government's decision to come up for hearing tomorrow
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi's order to put up name boards on shops along the Kanwar route during his Kanwar Yatra has created a stir. On the one hand, the opposition parties are protesting against this order, on the other hand, a non-governmental organization has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this order. Civil Rights Defense Society, an NGO, approached the Supreme Court challenging the order passed on the name board. The NGO filed the petition online at 6 am on July 20, after which the Supreme Court will hear the case tomorrow, July 22. A bench comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Patti is hearing the case. The Yogi government issued an order, first in Uttar Pradesh, where Muzaffarnagar DIG Kanwar ordered the installation of name boards in shops along the route, after which a debate started not only across the state but across the country. Opposition parties started attacking on this issue. The Yogi government issued an order on Thursday and said that dhabas, hotels and street vendors on Kanwar route across UP should write down the name of the owner. Giving the rationale behind this, the BJP said that just as every religion has the right to maintain the purity of its faith, Hindus also have the right to maintain the purity of their faith. The opposition parties have come under fire since Chief Minister Yogi issued the order. Rashtriya Lok Dal, an ally of the BJP, along with the opposition parties, protested this order of the UP government. RLD President Jayant Chowdhury said that everyone is writing names on their stores, what will McDonald's and Burger King write? He said the government should withdraw its decision. On the other hand, the opposition has come under fire over the nameplate controversy. Many leaders including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh are opposing this.
