Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 gets a new release date; Shankar's film will hit the screens in July

The sequel to Shankar's 1996 hit Indian will finally release this July. The film's lead actor Kamal Haasan shared the new release date on X (formerly Twitter), but without any reminder. He also urged fans to exercise their right to vote, stressing the importance of their role in the democratic process.

After several delays, Indian 2 will finally release in theaters on July 12. Announcing, Kamal Haasan Wrote, “#Indian2 to release in theaters worldwide on 12th July 2024!” He also revealed that the first single of the film, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, will be released on 22 May.

Urging fans to exercise their right to vote, he shared another poster of the film which read, “Ek Hindustani. a vote. A voice. Be the change you want! Vote responsibly!”

In Shankar's 1996 Indian, which also starred Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar and Kasturi Shankar, Kamal played the dual roles of Senapati and Chandru, a righteous father and a corrupt son. The film tells the story of an army veteran who becomes a vigilante to teach corrupt officials a lesson by ensuring that they do not take bribes. AR Rahman's music for the film was a big hit. The film was released in Telugu as Bharatiyadu and in Hindi as Hindustani.
Indian 2: Zero Tolerance
Indian 2, whose tagline is Zero Tolerance, is in production since 2019, in which Kamal Haasan will be seen in the role of a commander. The sequel will also see Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. In 2020, the film was briefly put on hold after the crew was injured in an accident on the set. The shooting was also delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in 2022, with Shankar shooting between this and the Ram Charan, Kiara Advani-starrer Game Changer. It was initially scheduled to be released in June, but the makers postponed the release to July.
