Jharkhand Weather: Despite failure of monsoon in Seraikela, only 12 per cent farmers planted seeds.
Shasindra Kumar Dash, Karsavan: Farmers have started paddy cultivation in Seraikela-Karsawan district as the monsoon has receded. But this year the onset of monsoon is very weak. The district has recorded 133.7 mm of rain from July 1 to 4. Due to this, the work related to agriculture is also going on in a slow pace. Farmers are busy plowing the fields and preparing the fields. But paddy cultivation is affected due to lack of good rains. Paddy is cultivated by sprinkler method on sloping lands. Farmers are sowing paddy seeds on sloping land. So far 12 percent farmers have sown paddy seeds in the fields by spraying. Paddy cultivation is affected due to lack of rain. 564.65 quintal of paddy seeds will be available to farmers at 50 percent subsidized cost through lamps. 564.65 quintal of paddy seeds have been provided to the district. Subsidized prices of IR-64 (Prundal) and MTU 1010 (Golden) are available at Nel Lampas. 630 per packet of IR-64 weighing 30 kg. Apart from this, various types of paddy seeds are available in the market. Farmers can be seen buying paddy seeds from seed shops. 1200 per hour for plowing with a tractor. A target of 27,000 hectares of land is under hybrid paddy cultivation, 46,000 hectares under high yielding paddy cultivation and 27,000 hectares under improved paddy cultivation. About 4.23 lakh people are engaged in agriculture in the district. Among them, there are 2,11,500 large farmers, 1,22,886 small farmers and 88,614 marginal farmers. Farmers of the district said: This year, it did not rain even in June. Monsoon came very late and was relatively weak for the first time. Paddy cultivation is delayed due to insufficient rainfall.
