IPL 2024: Lizaad Williams joins Delhi Capitals as a replacement for Harry Brook 3

Lizaad Williams, the South African fast bowler, has been signed by the Delhi Capitals as a replacement for England’s Harry Brook for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Since making his international debut in 2021, Williams has represented South Africa in two Tests, four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 11 T20 Internationals. He joins Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

The Delhi Capitals lost a closely fought contest against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While the Capitals suffered their fourth setback, Mumbai clinched their first win of IPL 2024.

Our skipper, Rishabh Pant, won the toss and elected to field first. There were two changes for us in the lineup, Lalit Yadav and Jhye Richardson were in for Rasikh Dar and injured Mitchell Marsh.

The home side was off to a flying start as the Mumbai openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, posted 75 runs in the powerplay without giving away their wickets.

Axar Patel gave us a much-needed breakthrough, dismissing Rohit in the seventh over for 49.

Suryakumar Yadav, playing his first game of IPL 2024, was sent back to the pavilion in the next over by Anrich Nortje before he could trouble the scorers.

Axar Patel also picked the wicket of Kishan for 42 in the final over of his spell with a mind-blowing catch.

Our leading wicket-taker, Khaleel Ahmed, added another wicket to his tally after dismissing Tilak Varma early in the 13th over.

After Khaleel completed his quota of four overs, he was replaced by our impact sub Kumar Kushagra, who was also making his IPL debut in this game.

Mumbai Indians’ skipper Hardik Pandya, then, along with Tim David went all guns blazing. Nortje picked the price wicket of Pandya in his penultimate over. However, he could not repeat the heroics in the final over of the innings as Romario Shepherd propelled Mumbai Indians to 234/5.

It was a watchful start from our openers, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. Shepherd, however, bagged the wicket of Warner in the fourth over.

Shaw, joined at the crease by Abishek Porel, scored briskly and kept the required run rate in check. Shaw looked in total control and brought up his first fifty of the campaign.

Shaw and Porel were going great guns until the well-set Shaw was knocked over by a perfect yorker from Jasprit Bumrah in the 12th over.

A solid-looking Porel then went down to Bumrah in his next over.

The required run rate kept on increasing and Rishabh Pant lost his wicket in an attempt to clear the boundary against Gerald Coetzee in the 16th over.

But, the man in form, Tristan Stubbs, continued from where he left in the previous game and took the attack to the opposition.

The swashbuckling Protea batter took up the responsibility on his shoulders and scored his second fifty of the season.

Stubbs was going strong, but we couldn’t power over the finishing line. Mumbai Indians restricted us at 205/8  to claim their first win of IPL 2024.
