IPL 2024: Is this rule killing all-rounders? Impact on Team India
The Impact Player rule has become a topic of much discussion during IPL 2024. Under this rule, all teams have 5 influential players for each match. From which the team can select one player. Under this rule a team uses one player in each match. If a team needs a batsman during the match, the team uses one player as an impact player and then has to sit out one player from the playing eleven.
If a team needs a bowler, a team uses a bowler. Even though all the IPL teams are benefiting from this rule, the direct impact of this rule is being seen on the all-rounders, which is not good for Team India.
Impact on Team India!
After IPL 2024, Team India will play T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI would like to choose a strong team in this tournament but before that the big question for Team India is that if Hardik Pandya is not completely fit then who is the other all-rounder who can bowl and bat like him. Although India has all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, but both these players bowl spin. Whereas teams like Australia and England have plenty of seam-bowling all-rounders. It is believed that the impact player rule is taking away the influence of all-rounders. Many former Indian players have raised questions on this rule.
What are the impact player rules?
Impact player rule was implemented in IPL 2023. Under which, during the toss, all the teams will have to reveal the names of their 5 influential players. A team may use an influential player during a match. Under this rule, all teams can substitute players only once in a match. So far in IPL 2024, many players have come on the field as influential players and lead the team to victory. In the match played between KKR and Rajasthan Royals, Josh Butler also came to play as an influential player and Butler scored a brilliant century and Rajasthan won.
