This incident highlights a serious problem of misconduct against the elderly in the society. Incidents of atrocities, neglect and misconduct with the elderly are constantly increasing, which question the moral values of the society.
The 'Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens Act, 2007' is applicable for the protection of the elderly in India, which protects their rights. Under this Act, if children or heirs do not take care of their elderly parents, they are eligible for legal action. Despite this, many elders are unable to exercise their rights due to lack of awareness and social pressure.
Respect and care towards the elderly is part of our cultural heritage. It is the duty of every member of the society to respect their elders and take care of their needs. In addition, community and social organizations should also come forward and raise their voice against the misbehavior against the elderly and provide assistance to them.
This incident of Kubera Nath Sharma's suicide is a warning to the society that we should understand our responsibilities towards our elders and give them the respect and love they deserve. It is necessary that we promote dialogue and understanding in our families, so that such tragic events do not recur.
