Hyundai Grand i10 Hy-CNG vs Tata Tiago i-CNG: Price, dual-cylinder tech, features, efficiency compared

Hyundai Motor India recently launched the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Hy-CNG duo in the Indian market. The Grand i10 Nios Hy-CNG duo is the second Hy-CNG model after Exter and is expected to be soon introduced on the Aura then too. The Hy-CNG models get dual-cylinder technology which is basically splitting one big tang into two small tanks. This way, they can pack the 2 small cylinders underneath the boot floor, hence liberating more storage space.

The Grand i10 Nios Hy-CNG directly competes with the Tata Tiago i-CNG which also gets dual-cylinder tech.In this article, let’s compare the price, features, engineand fuel-efficiency of both models. The Grand i10 Nios CNG is offered in both single and dual-cylinder CNG tanks whereas the Tiago gets only dual-cylinder tanks.

Comparing the prices and variants, the Grand i10 Hy-CNG is offered in two variants – Magna and Sportz priced at Rs 7.75 lakh and 8.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The dual-cylinder CNG Nios commands a premium of Rs 7,000 more than the single-cylinder CNG versions which will be sold alongside. The Tiago is offered in XE, XM, XT, XZ plus, NRG XT, NRG XZ, XTA, XZA plus, and XZA NRG variants priced between Rs 6.6 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Next let’s compare the engine, gearbox and fuel efficiency. The Grand i10 Hy-CNG is powered by the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine which puts 83hp and 114Nm torque. In CNG mode, the engine produces 69hp and 95Nm of torque. The engine comes paired only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a CNG tank capacity of 60 litres and it has claimed a fuel efficiency of 27.3 km/kg.

Talking about the Tiago CNG, it’s powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, NA engine that puts out 86hp of power and 113Nm of torque. In CNG mode, the car puts out 73hp and 95Nm. The CNG models get a 5-speed AMT gearbox and it also gets ‘Creep’ functionality. The AMT gearbox in the CNG car is a segment first. There’s also the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a CNG tank capacity of 60 litres and it has claimed a fuel efficiency of 28.60 km/kg.

In terms of features, the Grand i10 CNG gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, steering mounted controls, rear-AC vents, automatic headlamps, projector headlights with DRLs, six airbags, TPMS, rear parking camera, hill start assist, ESC and much more.

The Tiago CNG on the other hand gets more features when compared to the i10 Nios. It gets projector headlamps with LED DRLS, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Harman audio system, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors
