Rahman clarified
Rahman said that we do not believe in the concept of minority and majority, we believe in unity. We do not consider Hindus as a minority, they are our brothers and friends in Bangladesh. We are with our Hindu brothers and we will stand with them. He said that Jamaat workers guarded the temples and houses of Hindus after August 5 so that no untoward incident happens. These are baseless allegations. Jamaat workers and leaders are making every effort to protect the Hindu community.
Awami League alleges
He said that in the last 16 years you cannot show a single example where Jamaat has occupied or looted the property of Hindus. Awami League leaders have done this and blamed us for it. Jamaat believes that as citizens of Bangladesh, members of all communities have equal rights in this country. Our constitution guarantees this. We have never oppressed our Hindu brothers. They are our brothers and friends.
Rehman blamed a malicious media campaign for the negative image of Jamaat-e-Islami. “The perception that we are a militant organisation is completely wrong. It is time to change this perception. We are not against any country,” he said. He said if India could provide evidence of any anti-India terrorist activity by the Jamaat, his party was ready to apologise. “If we try to trouble our neighbour, can we live in peace?
