Heavy rains in Cauvery catchment areas, increased inflows into Krishnaraja Sagar, Kabini dams

Live Hindi News :- Heavy rains in Kodaku and Mysuru Cauvery catchment areas in Karnataka have increased the inflow of water into the Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams. Kodagu, Mysore and Mandya districts of the Cauvery catchment area in Karnataka did not receive any rain from last February to the first week of May. As a result, the Cauvery river dried up and the water flow into the Krishnaraja Sagar dam reduced completely. So the Cauvery water that should be released to Tamil Nadu was not released properly.

In such a situation, for the last few days, there has been heavy rain in Bhagamandala, Madikeri and Veerajapettai of Kodagu district, where the Kaveri river originates. Kodagu district received 32.34 mm of rain yesterday. Due to this, the Kaveri river overflowed. Similarly, Mysuru and Mandya districts also received extensive rain in the last two days. Due to this, the flow of water in the Krishnaraja Sagar dam built on the Kaveri is increasing. At the same time, Kapila river has flooded due to heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala. This has also increased the flow of water in the Kabini dam.

As of 5 pm yesterday, 2,509 cubic feet of water was flowing in the Krishnaraja Sagar dam per second. 6,473 cubic feet of water was flowing in the Kabini dam per second. Due to this, the water level of the Krishnaraja Sagar dam has crossed 80 feet. At the same time, officials of the Cauvery Irrigation Corporation have said that if the rain continues for the next few weeks, the flow of water in both the dams will increase and the water level will rise.
A few days ago, the Cauvery Management Authority had directed Karnataka to release 2.5 TMC of Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu. But it is worth noting that due to lack of rain, the Karnataka government had refused to release the water.
