Onion Export: The Central Government has relaxed the ban on export of white onion, the government has allowed export of white onion from 3 ports of the country. From where 2000 tonnes of white onion can be exported. This is a relief news for onion farmers.

The central government has given permission to export up to 2000 tonnes of white onion. Also, this onion can be exported only from some ports. Farmers’ earnings will increase through export of onion.

Certificate will have to be taken from Gujarat for export

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification that the exporter will have to obtain a certificate from the Horticulture Commissioner of Gujarat government for the quantity and material of onion export. Up to 2000 tonnes of safat onion can be exported through the designated ports with immediate effect.

There will be exports from these ports

The government has allowed export of white onion from Mundra port, Pipavav port and Nhava Sheva-JNPT port. Due to skyrocketing prices of onion, export of sensitive commodity onion has been banned. DGFT is a unit of the Commerce Ministry, which sets norms related to import and export. On December 8 last year, the government had banned the export of onions to increase local availability and control prices. Often an attempt is made to increase the price of onion by hoarding it.
