What is special about this is that RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has talked about bringing in ULI i.e. Unified Lending Interface to provide easy credit to farmers, small shopkeepers and small entrepreneurs of the country. When was Pradhan Mantri Jandhan Yojana launched? Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PMJDY as a major financial inclusion scheme on 28 August 2014. The number of bank accounts under the scheme increased to 14.72 crore in March 2015, which has almost quadrupled to 53.13 crore by August 16, 2024. Total deposits under PMJDY in March 2015 were Rs. 15,670 crore, which by August 2024 will be Rs. 2.31 lakh crore increased. On the 10th anniversary of this Pradhan Mantri Janthan Yojana to open 3 crore Janthan accounts in 2024-25, Nirmala Sitharaman said that our target is to open more than 3 crore Janthan accounts in the current financial year. As of August 14, 2024, there are more than 173 crore current and savings accounts in the country, of which more than 53 crore are Jandhan accounts. The finance ministry said 80 per cent of Jan Dhan accounts are operational, with the 'JAM Trio' (Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile) encouraging direct transfer of funds (DBT) to beneficiary accounts. With the JM trio, he said, DBT's scope has grown from regional to global.
