German Football League: Bayer Leverkusen becomes Bundesliga champion for the first time in 120 years

Germany’s top football league, the Bundesliga, consists of 18 teams and does not play semi-finals or finals. The team that tops the points table after 34 matches is the winner. The 120-year-old Bayer Leverkusen club won the trophy by defeating SV Werder Bremen by a huge margin of 5-0 in the league match. As soon as the final whistle of the match, thousands of supporters came to the field and cut the nets of the goal posts and took them with them as souvenirs. Leverkusen regained top spot after 29 matches. He still has to play five matches. The club Bayer Leverkusen was founded in 1904. They have not won the Bundesliga title even once yet. Five times before this he had to be satisfied with second place.

Bayern Munich has dominated the Bundesliga and the club has become champion in the last 11 seasons but this time Bayer Leverkusen has caused a major upset. Leverkusen finished sixth last season. After the team’s victory, rivers of beer flowed in the players’ room. Players threw beer on their coach. Manager Xabi Elanso played an important role in making the team champion. The club was earlier trolled with the name Neverkusen but the former Spain international changed the fortunes of the team.

Victor Boniface in the 25th minute, Granit Xhaka in the 69th minute and Florian Wirtz in the 69th, 83rd and 90th minutes completed a hat-trick for Leverkusen.
