German drug smuggler dies in DTU hospital, jailed in Tihar
Ashokumar, a German national who was lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail on charges of drug smuggling, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Ashok, 77, of Indian origin, was arrested at the Delhi airport with the help of Interpol. He had come from Doha with a large haul of drugs. The police have contacted the German embassy to collect information about Ashok's family for action on the case. According to the Delhi Police, on August 27, police received information from Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital that an undertrial, Ashok Kumar, had died. He was admitted on August 14 due to several ailments. He was lodged in Tihar Jail No. 4 in a CBI NTPS case. CBI arrested Ashokumar from the airport on July 26. Acting on a tip-off from Interpol, the CBI arrested Ashokumar from the IGI (Indira Gandhi International) Airport on July 26. He had hidden 6 kg of cocaine in 270 capsules inside two dolls. After five days of police custody, he was lodged in Tihar Jail. Acting on information from Interpol, the CBI arrested a German national of Indian origin with about 6 kg of cocaine at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
