Gandhiji never said government should enforce prohibition: Prashant Kishore
John Suraj founder Prashant Kishor has attacked both the state government and the RJD over liquor prohibition in Bihar. He said if there is any such proof not only in Bihar, India but anywhere in the world, say that prohibition led to economic and social development of that place. If that were the case, everything would be banned in today's rich countries. Prashant Kishore said that people say that Gandhiji wanted abstinence. I reject this. Banning alcohol in the name of Gandhiji is wrong. Gandhi did not say that the government should ban alcohol. He said people should not drink alcohol. John Suraj said that women are the most affected by prohibition, and Gandhiji never said that the government should enact a law for prohibition. Today, the people of Bihar are facing a loss of 20 thousand crore rupees per year due to prohibition. Women are the most affected by alcoholism. Prashant Kishor said 'two big parties are responsible for this' and if Nitish Kumar can do this then two big parties RJD and BJP are most responsible for this. If Nitish Kumar has reversed seven times, RJD is guilty three times. BJP is also guilty thrice. This is not the first time that Prashant Kishore has raised questions about prohibition. He had earlier said that Mahatma Gandhi never supported prohibition. As far as I know, he never advocated abstinence. Banning alcohol has no effect. Every day I say from the open that prohibition should be lifted. I have been saying since day one that this will never benefit Bihar. There are only downsides to this.
