From UP to Kerala… these MPs of Indian origin won the UK elections, see the list
In the UK general election, about 28 MPs of Indian origin have been elected to the House of Commons. In this election, the ruling Conservative Party lost the election to the Labour Party after 14 years. A few hours after this, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak resigned from the post of Prime Minister. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer became the 58th Prime Minister of the country.
In this election, the Labour Party has won 412 out of 650 seats. The Conservatives were reduced to 121 seats. However, Rishi Sunak has won his Richmond and Northallerton constituency in Yorkshire. Other prominent British Indian Tories who retained their seats in this election include former Secretary Suella Braverman and Priti Patel. Goa-born cabinet colleague Claire Coutinho has also won this election.
Indian origin dominates UK general elections
Let us tell you that this time a total of 28 Indian leaders have won in Britain. Earlier, 15 Indian leaders won in 2019 and 10 in 2017. In this election, Indian leaders of the Conservative Party have also registered a spectacular victory. Out of 28, 12 members of the community including 6 women have been elected to the House of Commons. All these Sikh MPs belong to the Labor Party. Of these, nine have been elected for the first time, two have been elected MPs for the third consecutive time.

British Sikh MPs Preet Kaur Gill, who defeated first-time Tory candidate Ashvir Sangha, and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi won their seats for Labour in Birmingham Edgbaston and Slough. Satvir Kaur, Harpreet Uppal, Varinder Joos, Gurvinder Josan, Kanishka Narayan, Navendu Mishra and Nadia Whittome are the other Labour MPs of Indian origin who have been re-elected with a landslide majority.
Rishi Sunak gets victory in his constituency
Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has kept the Tory charge of British Indians in his seats with a decisive win in his Richmond and Northallerton constituency in Yorkshire. Other prominent British Indian Tories who retained their seats include former Home Secretaries Suella Braverman and Preet Patel and Sunak’s Goan-origin cabinet colleague Claire Coutinho. Gagan Mohindra retained the South West Hertfordshire seat for the Conservatives, while Shivani Raja registered a lead for the party in the constituency of Leicester East, where she was contesting against Indian-origin Labour candidate Rajesh Agarwal.
Britain is now in second place after Canada
Overall, the maximum number of Indian immigrant candidates won in the Labour Party, which includes party’s veteran leaders like Seema Malhotra. At the same time, Britain is now in second place after Canada with 12 Sikh MPs. Where a large number of Punjabi immigrants live, there are 18 Sikh MPs.
