From Examination to Court's 'Supreme Verdict'… Deadline for NEET Paper Case
The Supreme Court has given its verdict in the NEET-UG-2024 paper leak case. Rejecting the petitions filed seeking cancellation of the examination and re-conduct of the examination, the court said that there is no need to re-conduct the examination. There is insufficient evidence of malpractice in the examination. Let's see what happened in this case from the time of examination till the result. On February 9, NDA released a notification to submit online applications for the exam. On May 5, the exam was held in 4 thousand 750 centers in 571 cities. There were also 14 cities from abroad. About 24 lakh students participated in it. The exam result came on 4th June. Out of this, 67 got 100 percent marks. On June 11, the Supreme Court sought a reply from the Center and the NDA on a review petition based on paper leaks and other irregularities. On June 13, the central government informed the court that it has canceled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates who appeared for the exam. These students will have the option to re-appear in the exam or cancel the grace marks awarded. On June 14, the court asked the Center and the NDA to respond to a plea seeking a CBI probe into allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities. On June 18, the court had said that even 0.001 per cent negligence in examination should be dealt with. Education department informed that 813 of those who got mercy marks on June 23 re-sit the exam. On July 1, NTA announced the revised results. After this, the number of first rankers in the exam decreased from 67 to 61. The government had told the Supreme Court on July 5 that canceling the exam would jeopardize the future of lakhs of bona fide candidates. It would not be right to do so in the absence of evidence of a massive breach of privacy. On July 10, the government told the Supreme Court that there was no indication of large-scale irregularities. The group of local candidates also did not work out. On July 18, the court directed the NTA to release the exam results center wise and city wise by 12 noon on July 20. While doing this, the identity of the candidates should not be revealed. On July 22, the court asked IIT-Delhi to constitute a panel of experts. This group had to give the correct answer to a physics question asked in the exam. And he said you have to submit your report on 23rd July. The court came up for hearing on July 23. All parties were heard. I also went through IIT Delhi and CBI reports. Along with this, other aspects were also considered. After that they refused to cancel or re-conduct the exam.
