Ford Introduces Advanced Monitoring System for Safer, Smarter Towing
Modern pick-up trucks and SUVs have thousands of pay-load capacities, however, not all drivers have the same ability as their vehicles.
To aid the driving experience while towing, Ford has invented an all-new Camera Monitoring System with keeps an eye on the trailer.
The Camera monitoring system will not provide a live feed from the camera however, the system will detect serval different elements and hazards and notify the driver with an audible alert chime if necessary.
As stated by the patent,” In response to an alert, the vehicle may show an image of the trailer on the drivers display, but in this instance, the driver will have already been alerted to the change, and/or the vehicle may visually identify the parts of the image that have changed, which represented the basis for the alert.”
The Camera monitoring system will also have the added feature of alerting the driver in case the weight of the trailer shifts in transit.
Ford stated that a live feed of the trailer being towed would be distracting to drivers, leading them to take their eyes off the road and possibly leading to accidents, but with their alerting system, drivers will be instantly alerted without the hazard of having to look away from the road.
- Ford is expected to offer the Camera monitoring system starting with the F-150 and then being offered in other cars from the Blue Oval line.
