Farmer leaders met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and submitted drafts of two individual bills regarding their demands.
A group of farmers visited the Parliament premises and met the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. In this meeting held at the office of the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament, the farmers presented the drafts of 2 individual bills to Rahul Gandhi. One is said to be related to statutory guarantee of MSP and the other is related to farmer loan waiver. Farmers have requested Rahul Gandhi to bring a private bill in Parliament. In the meeting with farmers, Rahul Gandhi has promised to hold discussions with party leaders, allied parties and experts. Reports have surfaced that Rahul Gandhi has definitely assured farmers' leaders, but this bill will not come in this session. The budget session of Parliament is going on till August 12. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi met other camp leaders of the United Kisan Morcha. Their meeting was held in the Parliament premises. Even then the farmers demanded to bring a separate bill. Now a second group of farmers has met Rahul Gandhi in a few days. 12 agricultural leaders including Yogendra Yadav and Hannan Mulla are included in this group. Over the past several years, farmers have been adamant in their demand for legislation to provide for lower prices. Despite several talks with the government, the law has not been enacted yet. Farmers say what is the problem in bringing the law when the government talks about procuring crops at low prices. The Haryana government recently made a big announcement, the Saini government of Haryana announced that it will purchase all crops in its state at MSP. The government has claimed that Haryana is the first state in the country where all crops are procured at low prices. Before the assembly elections in the state, this announcement by the government is linked to the elections.
