Expose those who harbor terror… India in the open at SEO conference
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit was organized in the capital of Kazakhstan. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments. He presented India's side on issues like terrorism, climate change, respect for territorial integrity and recent global tensions between several countries. All these issues have far-reaching implications, he said. In addition to dealing with these, we also need to make it clear that the world is moving towards diversity. In such a scenario, the importance of the SCO increases even more, but its importance depends on how well we cooperate with each other. The External Affairs Minister said that terrorism is a major challenge for many of our countries. Some countries use it as a means of bringing about instability. We have our own experiences with cross-border terrorism. Terrorism in any form cannot be tolerated. Those who harbor terrorists should be condemned. Such countries should be isolated and exposed. SEO cannot back down from its commitment in this regard. We cannot adopt a double standard. Talking about the 'Make in India' geoeconomy, he said that Covid has taught us to build reliable and flexible supply chains. 'Make in India' can add to the engine of global growth. It will help democratize the global economy. India is ready to partner with countries of the Global South in capacity building. Technology is a game changer in both development and security, he said. Trust and transparency are essential in the digital age. The role of AI cannot be denied. Cyber security is also an important issue. India has proved that by working on technology, it can bring about a huge change in digital transactions. “We have historical ties with Afghanistan,” he said, echoing the Prime Minister's views, “and it is very important to jointly explore the paths of development.” Recent global debate has focused on creating new connectivity links. The world will benefit greatly from this. He also spoke about the issue of Afghanistan. Foreign Minister, I want to talk about Afghanistan. We have historical ties. Our cooperation includes issues such as development projects, humanitarian assistance, capacity building and sports. India is sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the Afghan people. The SEO is committed to reforming the existing international system by granting English official language status. However, this is only possible if these efforts are extended to the United Nations and its Security Council. Hopefully we can build a consensus in the future. India has played a major role in promoting SEO's economic agenda. We have created special working groups on SCO startups and innovation. There are 1 lakh 30 thousand startups in India. These include 100 unicorns. This experience of India will be very useful. The External Affairs Minister also expressed his views on issues like medicine, tourism and education. He said many countries wanted to join the SEO. Considering this, English should be given the status of third official language. We congratulate the Kazakh side for hosting a successful summit.
