Ex-Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia : The Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday acquitted former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. In this case, the lower court had sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment. Local media gave this information. According to reports, Zia (79) was convicted by a Dhaka court in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case in 2018.

According to reports, a bench of Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Syed Inayat Hussain overturned the decision on the basis of Zia's appeal. The court also acquitted two other accused in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission had filed a corruption case at Tejgaon police station in 2011, accusing Zia and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from undisclosed sources.
The BNP president was lodged in the Old Dhaka Central Jail on February 8, 2018, after a special court sentenced him to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
On October 30, 2018, the High Court increased his sentence to 10 years.
