Electronic weighing machines will be used in ration distribution
Kolkata. The state food department has started using electronic weighing machines to prevent weight irregularities in the ration distribution scheme. The system is currently being launched as a pilot project. In this regard, Food Minister Ratin Ghosh said: In the next step, electronic weighing machines will be made mandatory in ration shops so that customers do not get caught in the fraud net and do not take away their allotted ration. A few days ago, the issue of ration scam created a lot of excitement in the state politics. Former Food Minister Jyothipriya Mallik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on corruption charges. After this incident, several measures have been initiated in the food sector since the beginning of this year to implement the ration system in a transparent manner. From receiving applications for new ration cards through the department's portal, emphasis has been placed on providing all types of services online so that there are no complaints from the food department in any way. About 20 lakh people have joined the system, says the food department. They said that this arrangement is to avoid customers visiting various offices for ration related tasks and efforts are being made to make the ration delivery system completely online. In this case, he said, the system of withdrawing ration through e-POS i.e. thumb registration has already been started. This time an electronic weighing machine will also be included in it. According to sources, even though the e-POS system is operational, a plan has been drawn up to link weighing machines with e-POS as customers have received complaints of less ration. A department official said: “If ration is not provided as per quota, e-POS will not work. Bill will not be published. Customers should be careful about this. Then through e-POS the department can also monitor how much the inventory of ration dealers is decreasing. Disclaimer: This is an automated news feed of Prabhat Khabar newspaper.
