Election to 12 Rajya Sabha seats, gain for BJP or loss for Congress, understand complete maths.
After the Lok Sabha elections, now, the Rajya Sabha elections are going to take place. The Election Commission has announced that the elections for 12 Rajya Sabha seats in nine states will be held on Wednesday, August 7. Elections are to be held on September 3 for two Rajya Sabha seats each in Maharashtra, Assam and Bihar and one Rajya Sabha seat each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha. The Congress and the Indian alliance led by it, which performed well in the 2024 elections, may face setbacks in the Rajya Sabha. BJP-led NDA will benefit. While the election date for 12 Rajya Sabha seats in 9 states in the country has been announced, 10 seats have become vacant due to the Lok Sabha election victory. Apart from this, the seats fell vacant as Telangana's Dr. Keshav Rao left PRS to join Congress and Odisha's Mamata Mohandas left BJD to join BJP. In this way, seven Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant from the BJP quota, whereas RJD, BRS and BJD have one Rajya Sabha seat each. In such a situation, if you look at the number of MLAs in the assemblies of the six states of the country where 10 Rajya Sabha seats are vacant, the question has arisen that the political supremacy of the DMK is strong. However, only its allies can become a challenge to BJP as in both Bihar and Maharashtra, BJP can increase its numbers with the help of allies. The BJP is certain to win seven Rajya Sabha seats, but contests are expected in Maharashtra, Bihar and Haryana. In such a situation, it remains to be seen who will win the Rajya Sabha elections. Gain or loss for BJP: In the Rajya Sabha elections, BJP will easily win one Rajya Sabha seat each from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura and Odisha and two seats from Assam. As the number of assembly members in these states favors the BJP, the party's victory is assured. RJD and BJP may win one seat each in Bihar, but Maharashtra and Haryana constituencies are likely to go to polls as there is not much difference between the BJP and the opposition in the assembly. As assembly elections are held in these two states, the Rajya Sabha elections are considered semi-finals. BJP will easily win one seat in Bihar and one seat in Maharashtra. By this BJP can get benefit of one seat. Two Rajya Sabha seats of Congress quota fell vacant, one from Rajasthan and one from Haryana. KC Venugopal, who was a member of the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, is now a Lok Sabha MP, and Dipendra Hooda, a member of the Rajya Sabha from Haryana, has won the Lok Sabha elections and entered Parliament. With the number of MLAs in the Rajasthan Assembly in favor of the BJP, its victory is assured. There is not much difference between the BJP and the Congress in Haryana, due to which both are in the mood to test their luck in the Rajya Sabha elections. Congress will make up for the loss in Rajasthan from Telangana as there is a game of numbers in the assembly. With this, Congress needs to win one more seat to retain its old tally. For this, his eyes will be on Haryana and Maharashtra seats. Congress will not only have to work hard in these two states but also win the votes of the opposition parties, only then the victory will be assured. Maharashtra's two Rajya Sabha seats are vacant under BJP quota, due to which it will contest the elections. In such a situation, the Indian alliance has to decide on whose behalf it will contest the elections. If the Congress wins this seat, it will have to retain the confidence of MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Sarath Pawar's party. Haryana currently has 87 members in the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly, BJP has 41 MLAs and Congress has 29 MLAs. Dushyant Chautala's JJP has 10 MLAs, five independents, INLD one and HLP one. An independent MLA has joined the BJP. Apart from this, HLP's Gopal Kanda and independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat have extended their support to BJP. With this, the BJP has 43 MLAs and the remaining 44 MLAs are in the opposition camp. 3 independent MLAs have supported the Congress party. Apart from this, independent Abhay Chautala is yet to open his card. 6 MLAs of Dushyant Chautala are believed to be angry with him. Two of them support BJP. JJP has demanded action against these two MLAs under the Prevention of Party Defection Act. With this, there are chances of JJP MLAs to split in the Rajya Sabha elections. By this, if the Congress candidate is fielded, the election will be contested, otherwise the BJP is sure to win. Similarly, there are chances of election contest in Maharashtra too. The total number of MPs in the Rajya Sabha is 245. Currently there are 225 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, 20 seats are vacant, so the majority is 114. Among the vacancies, there are 4 seats from Jammu and Kashmir and 4 seats for nominated members. Apart from these four Rajya Sabha seats, the remaining 12 seats are up for election. In the Rajya Sabha, the BJP has 86 seats and the NDA, including its allies, 101 seats. This leaves the NDA 13 seats short of a majority. Meanwhile, the opposition group has 87 seats and others 28 seats.
