Earthquake in the stock market, Sensex falls 203 points
Stock market: Due to the negative trend globally, the domestic stock market experienced an earthquake on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. In late trade, the Mumbai Stock Exchange's (BSE) Sensex fell 202.80 points, or 0.25%, to close at 82,352.64. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty also fell by 81.15 points or 0.32% to settle at 25,198.70 points. The Sensex closed down 721.75 points at 81,833.69 in early trade. At the same time, the Nifty also fell 196.05 points to open its session at 25,083.80 points. Out of 30 companies listed on the BSE Sensex, 19 stocks were in losses. ICICI Bank shares were heavy losers. Its shares fell 1.11% to Rs 1234.00 per share. Additionally, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Larsen & Trubo, Tata Steel, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, Powergrid, Titan, HCL Technologies, Tata Motors, ITC, Maruti Suzuki India, IndusInd Bank and JSW Steel also fell. Asian Paints shares gain: Despite the tremors in the stock market, shares of about 11 companies on the BSE remained profitable. Asian Paints was the biggest gainer. Its shares rose 2.39% to close at Rs 3229.30 per share. Apart from this, stocks of Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, Ultratech Cement, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Nestle India also gained. Markets bearish on possible US recession Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Services, said warning signals from weak US manufacturing data raised concerns about a possible slowdown in the US economy and led to a decline in domestic indices as outlook oil prices fell to a nine-month low. In the absence of major domestic triggers, indices take direction based on global cues. European markets have fallen. The US Dow Jones, S&P500 and Nasdaq are trading weaker. Gold fell 0.16 percent to $2,489.17 an ounce in the international market. In the global oil market, Brent crude rose 0.80% to $74.26 a barrel.
