Delhi High Court verdict in case related to natural gas extraction

Indeed, this case is related to the extraction of natural gas by Reliance Industries and its partner companies. The government claims that Reliance and its partner companies extract natural gas from such gas areas that they have no right to use. In this case, the Government of India sought a payment of $ 1.55 billion from Reliance. Reliance took the case to the International Arbitration Court, where a decision came in his favor in July 2018. The government's $ 1.55 billion claim was rejected. After this, the government approached the Delhi High Court. On the 14th of last month, the Delhi High Court ruled in favor of the government. Only after this, the government has issued a demand notice of $ 2.81 billion. Reliance confirmed the receipt of this notice on 3 March 2025.
What did the Petroleum Minister say?
Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that this recovery will be done in the case related to gas migration. When asked about the recovery of $ 2.81 billion, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the court has made its stand clear. And the government will try to recover this money till the end. The case is related to the KG-D6 block located in the Krishna-Godavari basin. Reliance has the right to extract natural gas in the region.
