CSK to MI: Four teams to qualify for IPL playoffs most times
The Indian Premier League (IPL) kick-started in the year 2008 and since then, as many as 16 editions have been played. The IPL 2024 is around the corner as it is just nine days away from getting underway.
CSK will take on RCB in the tournament opener on March 22, Friday in Chennai.
As many as 10 teams will take part in the competition – Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Among the teams, the top four will qualify for the playoffs. As a result, the teams must win games consistently while also keeping a tab on their Net Run Rate, which is certainly going to play a big part in the latter stages. Let’s now take a glimpse at the four teams that qualified for the playoffs most times.
1. Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings are the most consistent team in the history of the Indian Premier League, without a shadow of a doubt. Under the tutelage of MS Dhoni, CSK qualified for the playoffs a record 12 times out of the 14 seasons they have played, the most by a team in India’s premier T20 competition. Overall, CSK decorated their trophy cabinet with five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies. They were crowned the champions in the last season by beating Gujarat Titans in the final.
2. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians scaled great heights and underwent a significant transformation, winning as many as five IPL titles. Mumbai Indians come second on the list as they qualified for the playoffs 10 times out of the 16 seasons. Mumbai Indians finished fourth on the IPL 2023 points table and knocked LSG out of the competition in the Eliminator clash but lost to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2. MI think-tank took a bold call by appointing Hardik Pandya as the new captain.
