Climbing World Cup 2024: Janja Garnbrecht wins women’s title
Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret won the women’s gold medal while Britain’s Toby Roberts won the men’s title at the 2024 IFSC Climbing World Cup here on Sunday.
The Olympic champion won the season-opening lead competition just days after winning the title in the boulder class in Shaoxing Keqiao.
Garnbrecht was the only athlete among the eight finalists to finish top and win a World Cup gold medal. The 25-year-old had achieved the same feat in the semi-finals a day earlier.
China’s Luo Zhilu won the silver medal with a score of 44, her first lead medal at the World Cup. Seo Chae-Hyun of South Korea won the bronze medal with 43.
After the win, Garnbrecht was quoted by Xinhua as saying, “I had a good start with the boulder and I was hoping to have the same situation with the lead, and I think the size of my lead is as good as the boulder. “Excited to go back home and get some more training before returning for the World Cup in Innsbruck.”
In the men’s final, Roberts won the gold medal, while Japan’s Taisei Homma had to settle for the silver medal. Sorato Anraku of Japan won the bronze medal.
