Citroen Basalt To Be Revealed On March 27 – Powertrain, Features & More
Speaking about the Citroen Basalt, this upcoming SUV Coupe has been spotted testing a few times in India, and it is based on the Citroen C3 platform. When launched, this model will compete against C-segment SUVs and the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV.
Looking at the teaser, we can confirm that the Citroen Basalt comes with some premium bits such as LED taillamps with light guides and a sharkfin antenna. This is in stark contrast to the C3 Aircross SUV, which continues to sport conventional halogen bulbs in taillamps.
Looking at this, we can say that the upcoming Citroen Basalt is likely to be positioned as a more premium product compared to the C3 Aircross SUV despite both models being placed in the same category.
Given the premium positioning, we expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt to feature other premium bits such as LED headlamps, Power folding ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, and possibly even an electric sunroof.
Also, on the inside, we can expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt to sport features such as ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, wireless charging pad, electrically adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, and a few other premium bits.
That being said, we expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt to sport the same powertrain as the Citroen C3 Aircross SUV. Moreover, we also expect to see the automatic variant of the Citroen Basalt at the launch of the model.
As such, expect the upcoming Citroen Basalt to sport the familiar 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine as the C3 Aircross SUV. This engine has been tuned to produce 108.4bhp and 190Nm of torque.
In terms of transmission options, the Citroen Basalt will be offered with two transmission options – A 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic gearbox (Torque bumped up to 205Nm in the automatic variant).
Thoughts About The New Citroen Basalt
Given the Citroen Basalt’s unconventional design approach, we expect this model to attract the attention of potential buyers. However, to be successful, Citroen must ensure that the model comes loaded with features at an attractive price point.
