Sharing a photo with the Malayalam filmmaker on his Instagram stories, Siddharth wrote, “Team Chithha. Our team met the director of Manjummel Boys Mr Chidambaram. He encouraged us nicely.”
With a gross of over Rs 180 crore globally, Manjummel Boys is currently the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. The movie recently surpassed the record set by Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018 – Everyone is a Hero, which had last year recorded Rs 175 crore and dethroned director Vysakh’s Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan to become the top-grossing movie in Malayalam.

As the film zoomed past the Rs 180 crore mark worldwide in just over 20 days, expectations are high that Manjummel Boys will become the first-ever Malayalam movie to gross Rs 200 crore globally, setting another milestone.
Soon after the film’s release on February 22, Kamal Haasan, to whose 1991 movie Gunaa the Chidambaram film paid tribute, invited the movie’s cast and crew to his office in Chennai. “I liked the film very much. Not because it has Kamal Haasan’s name,” he said while addressing them.

The actor also revealed that Gunaa was supposed to have a different ending. While Gunaa is a romantic drama involving a person with a mental disorder and an affluent girl, Manjummel Boys is about the struggle to bring out a friend from the cave where Kamal’s film was shot. However, striking a parallel between the two, Kamal said, “Love can also be between friends.”
Starring Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy and Jean Paul Lal in key roles, Manjummel Boys received overwhelming responses upon release. In its review of the movie, The Indian Express noted, “Chidambaram’s survival thriller is about hope, resilience and perseverance, and the fact that it is based on a true story makes it even more impactful.”
