China congratulates PM Modi on his victory in Lok Sabha elections, expresses desire to work with India
New Delhi. China on Wednesday congratulated Narendra Modi on the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in India's general elections. China expressed its willingness to work with India in the overall interest of bilateral relations. The Election Commission of India has announced the results of all Lok Sabha constituencies in which the BJP won 240 out of 543 seats while the Congress secured 99 seats. The BJP-led NDA has easily crossed the majority mark in the Lok Sabha by winning over 272 seats. However, for the first time since 2014, the BJP has not been able to secure a majority of 272 seats on its own.
China congratulated
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said, “We have noted the results of India's general elections. We congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP and NDA on their victory.” Responding to questions about the results of India's general elections during the press conference, he stressed that strong and stable relations with India are in the interest of both countries and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond.
Desire to work together
Mao Ning further said that China is ready to work with India keeping in mind the overall interests of bilateral relations and the fundamental interests of the people of both countries. Relations between the two countries have deteriorated since violent clashes in the Pangong Tso (lake) area in 2020, which led to a standoff on the East Ladakh border. The two sides have so far held 21 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks to resolve the standoff.
