Chess: Gukesh defeats Vidit in Candidates Chess and takes joint lead
The second round of FIDE Candidates Chess has started. The eighth round of the 14-round tournament was played with two draws and two draws. India got the biggest result. De Geux defeated fellow Indian Vidit Gujrati in 39 moves in the Italian opener of Black Mahoran. With this victory, Gukesh has once again come to the joint lead with five points. Gukesh benefited from draws against Russia’s Yan Nepomanishin and Azerbaijan’s Nizhat Abbasov. Now both Nepomnishin and Gukesh are on top with five points each. In another big match, Hikaru Nakamura of America created an upset by defeating his own countryman and top seed Fabiano Caruana. The match between India’s R Praggnananda and France’s Alireza Firozha was a draw. Praggnananda and Nakamura both have 4.5 points.
