Canadian government gave a shock to foreign students, now they will be able to work only so many hours a week
According to a new rule made by the Government of Canada, international students including India will now be able to work outside college only 24 hours a week in Canada from September.
It is noteworthy that international students were given temporary permission to work more than 20 hours a week. However, this temporary approval has expired today itself. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Mark Miller said in a statement that the temporary policy allowing students to work more than 20 hours per week off campus will expire on April 30.
This policy will not be extended for long. He further said that our aim is to increase the number of hours students can work off-campus per week to 24 hours. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party government lifted the 20-hour limit for international students amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. However, this relief has ended today. Canada is one of the most preferred countries for Indian students. According to a 2022 report by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), there were 3,19,130 Indian students in Canada.
Miller has said that all the students who come here should come here to study. Students will be able to work for a maximum of 24 hours a week so that they can focus more on their studies. Working outside while studying gives students experience and helps meet expenses. The academic performance of students working more than 28 hours per week has been adversely affected. Australia has also recently made it mandatory for international students to work a maximum of 48 hours a fortnight.
