Britain will bring back thousands of refugees: Rishi Sunak said – 500 soldiers and chartered aircraft ready

Rwanda deportation policy: The UK Parliament has passed the Rwanda Deportation Bill. Rishi Sunak had promised to implement Rwanda policy in Britain before becoming Prime Minister. Which was given the green signal by both the houses of the Parliament. Under this bill, the British government will deport people coming to Britain illegally to the African country Rwanda.

At present the biggest priority of the British government is to stop such refugees. Therefore, this bill which was stuck for the last two years was challenged in the court. In this regard, British Home Secretary James Cleverly said that the Rwanda bill has been passed by the Parliament and will become law in a few days.

Is there a Rwanda Refugee Bill?

This bill was introduced to stop refugees coming to Britain illegally. In modern times, due to war and poverty people are crossing the English Channel to reach Britain. Most of them are from Africa, Middle East and Asian countries. This year, between January and March, 4600 such people have crossed the English Channel.

Under this bill, the British government will send refugees coming to Britain illegally to the African country Rwanda. Those whose applications are approved will be invited back to the UK with British citizenship and those whose applications are not approved can apply to resettle in Rwanda or seek asylum in a third country.

Why was the bill being opposed?

When this bill was introduced in the year 2022, there was huge opposition to this bill. An application was also filed against him in the Supreme Court of Britain. Then the British Supreme Court banned this bill.

The Supreme Court said that those who do not get citizenship will have to return to their country of origin and may face ill-treatment there. On the basis of that, the Supreme Court considered this bill against human rights.

It also criticized Rwanda and accused it of extrajudicial killings, deaths in custody and torture. However, after the objection of the Supreme Court, the British government introduced the Safety of Rwanda Bill, in which the British government declared Rwanda a safe country.

The British government will pay 1.5 lakh pounds for each person

Under the Rwanda Bill, the British Government has signed a migration agreement with the Government of Rwanda. Under this, the British government will pay 240 million pounds to Rwanda by the end of 2023, and the total payment for five years will be 370 million pounds.

According to media reports, Britain will pay 1.5 million pounds for each person sent to Rwanda. Currently, the government spends four billion pounds a year on refugees in the UK. An independent monitoring committee will ensure that Rwanda complies with its obligations under the treaty.

Rishi Sunak said that the first batch of illegal refugees from Britain will be sent to Rwanda in 10 to 12 weeks. To this end, the government has booked commercial charter aircraft and trained staff to transport refugees to Rwanda.

There are still legal challenges

The British government may face legal challenges even after the Rwanda Bill is passed by the British Parliament. Since Britain is a member of the European Convention, the bill can be challenged in the European Court of Human Rights.

According to Oxford University’s migration monitor, the number of refugees coming to Britain illegally in 2022 alone was 45,744. Also the total number of refugees was 7,45,000.
