BJP government possible in Odisha, NDA ahead in Andhra Pradesh with 157 seats, know what is the latest update?
New Delhi. In Andhra Pradesh, the NDA comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) looks set to form the government. Incumbent Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is set to face heavy losses. Exit polls had also predicted a change in power, with five exit polls favouring the NDA and two claiming that the incumbent YSRCP may remain in power.
In Odisha, the BJP is showing a strong lead and may form the government. Exit polls had indicated a close contest between the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the BJP, with both parties predicted to get 62 to 80 seats. YSRCP's Jagan Mohan Reddy has been in power in Andhra Pradesh since 2019, having won a landslide victory in the last election by securing 151 out of 175 seats. This time the BJP has formed an alliance with Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and actor Pawan Kalyan's JSP.
In contrast, Odisha's Naveen Patnaik has been chief minister for 24 years since March 2000. The BJP has not announced a chief ministerial candidate in Odisha but is relying on the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to carry forward its campaign.
