In an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, Gates revealed his admiration for Jobs’ natural ease on stage, a skill he himself has struggled to emulate. Reflecting on Jobs’ ability to make his presentations seem effortlessly spontaneous.”Steve Jobs was a natural. It was always fun to watch him rehearse because part of his genius was, when he would finally do it, he would make it look like he’s just thinking it up right there,” he said. “I’ll never achieve that level,” Gates said.
Bill Gates talked about how he and Steve Jobs used to travel together all over the world. They represented their big companies, Microsoft and Apple. Their job was to convince people and groups about how useful tools like spreadsheets and email could be in everyday life and jobs.
Gates still wants to communicate like Jobs did because he thinks it’s crucial for getting support for important things like education, health, and new technology. He believes in keeping things simple and focused on the audience. Gates wants to explain complicated ideas well and get feedback.
Jobs was known for working really hard before giving speeches. In a book called “Becoming Steve Jobs,” authors Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli talked about how Jobs would spend months getting ready. He would check everything, from the lights to the slides in his presentation, to make sure they were perfect.
Gates doesn’t just admire Jobs for his speaking skills. In 2019, Gates said he wished he could have some of Jobs’ “magic.” Even though Gates works on important causes, he wants them to get as much attention as Jobs’ work did.
Gates saying how good Jobs was at communicating shows how much Jobs still influences the tech world. It also reminds us that good communication is really important, not just in tech, but in everything.
