Bihar News: 400 e-buses to operate in 6 cities of Bihar, charging stations and depots to be ready soon.
Bihar News: People of Bihar will soon get better facilities for daily transport. Under the PM e-Bus scheme, about 400 electric buses are to be operated in six major cities of the state namely Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Purnia. But under this plan, charging stations, depots and other infrastructure will be upgraded before running the buses. The transport department has started the preparatory work for this. The central government has provided subsidy amount to build charging stations and strengthen other infrastructure including depots before operating the 78 crore e-buses received from the central government. Under the PM e-Bus scheme in 2024-25, Bihar has received Rs 78 crore 1 lakh as central share under this item. Once the amount is received, the transport department has approved the expenditure. Under this scheme, about 400 e-buses will be operated in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Purnia. Under this scheme, the number of buses in these cities will be decided according to population. Out of this, 150 e-buses will be provided for cities with a population of 20 to 40 lakh, 100 e-buses for cities with a population of 10 to 20 lakh, and 50 e-buses for cities with a population of five lakh. Operation of buses from next year: Under this scheme, more than 100 buses will be available in Patna and 50 buses each for cities like Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Purnia. The buses are expected to be operational from next year. Under the PM e-Bus scheme, cities have to give operating accounts of buses every three months. The scheme will be monitored by Special or Joint Secretary at State level and DM at District level.
