Bhagalpur Municipal Councilor seat has been lying vacant for 9 months, no by-elections have been held in the ward and development work has stalled.
Jeevan Kumar, the 10th ward councilor of Bhagalpur Corporation, resigned as councilor a year and a half ago, after which he got a job as a physical education teacher in Rohdas district. He tendered his resignation letter to the municipal commissioner in February 2024, but more than nine months later, the by-election in the ward has not been held. Due to this, the development work in the ward has been stopped and the corporation administration is taking responsibility for this. As the by-elections for the ward did not take place, the 10th ward is without a councilor and the development work has come to a complete standstill. Slow pace is observed in sanitation system, road maintenance and other essential works. The people of the ward are waiting for the speedy progress of the development work as someone is appointed for the post of councillor. After the resignation of Jeevankumar, the election was not held despite full information being sent to the corporation management. Municipal Manager of the Corporation, Vinay Kumar Yadav, had sent a letter to the Deputy Returning Officer on 24 June 2024 informing him about Ward 10. But even after this, no announcement was made regarding the by-election and no action was taken for the election. There is a problem with cleanliness and development work in Ward 10. The people of the ward say that the development work has come to a complete standstill. The drains of the main road are silted up and the culverts are broken at many places. Apart from this, the work of bleaching and lime spraying has not been carried out, so the ward has become unsanitary. Now the ward people are waiting to see if the councilor election will be held.
