Bengal: 14-hour interrogation…then arrest, ED's big action against Trinamool Congress leader in ration distribution scam
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action against Trinamool Congress leaders in the ration distribution scam case. After a 14-hour investigation, the investigating agency arrested two Trinamool Congress leaders. ED has arrested TMC's Deganga constituency president Anees ur-Rehman and his elder brother. Earlier, the investigating agency interrogated him for around 14 hours at its Kolkata office. The investigating agency said that Rehman and his brother have been arrested in connection with the ration distribution scam. We will produce him in court after medical examination. Rehman is very close to the state's former forest minister, Jyotipriya Malik. The Central Intelligence Agency has already arrested the former minister in connection with the scam. The official said that the ED officials have summoned Parikh Biswas, a rice mill owner and another close aide of the former minister, to appear in the office for questioning on Friday. During raids at Viswas' house and rice mill on Tuesday, the ED seized more than Rs 40 lakh in cash and some documents of investments in properties in the UAE, he said.
