Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert to several districts in Tamil Nadu due to a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which intensified to Cyclone Fengal. It has also stated that the storm is likely to move north-northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast. As a precautionary measure, the government has closed the educational institutions in Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai districts on November 27. All private and government schools in Chennai also closed amid heavy rain alerts.
