An experienced Congress Prime Minister who contested Lok Sabha elections once and lost both times

There are many such Lok Sabha constituencies in the country from where many leaders have reached the post of Chief Minister or Prime Minister, while one such seat is South Delhi Lok Sabha, which is considered the most important seat of the capital. Many veteran leaders have become the Chief Minister of Delhi by winning from this seat, while the former Prime Minister also had to face defeat from here. This Prime Minister is none other than senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister Manmohan Singh.
Dr. Manmohan Singh contested the Lok Sabha elections alone
Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has lost on this seat. He contested the only Lok Sabha election of 1999 from this seat. Then he was defeated by BJP’s Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra by 30 thousand votes. In that election, Vijay Kumar Malhotra got 2,61,230 votes, while Congress candidate Dr. Manmohan Singh got only 2,31,231 votes. Third place independent candidate Mohammad Sharif got only 2,846 votes. In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, 12 candidates contested from the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Eight of them were independent candidates, including Mohammad Sharif, Ved Prakash, Dinesh Jain, Ghanshyam Das, Janice Darbari, Joginder Singh, Ashok Kumar and Khairati Lal.
These seats include 10 assembly constituencies
South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency includes 10 assembly constituencies Bijwasan, Palam, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur, Deoli, Ambedkar Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Kalkaji, Tughlakabad and Badarpur. Out of these 10 assembly constituencies, only one Badarpur is held by BJP, the remaining nine assembly seats are held by Aam Aadmi Party MLAs. The first election on this seat was held in the year 1967. Since then, a total of 15 Lok Sabha elections have been held. Out of which BJP has won nine times, Congress five times and Janata Party once.
since 2014 BJP on this seat is occupied
BJP has held the South Delhi seat since 2014. Ramesh Bidhuri has been MP from here twice since 2014 and 2019. This time BJP and AAP have changed candidates. BJP has placed its bets on MLA Ramveer Singh Bidhuri and AAP-Congress alliance has placed its bets on MLA Sahiram Pehalwan.
