New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given a big boost to BSNL in the budget. Actually, BSNL company has been waiting for infrastructural changes for a long time. While private telecom operators are offering services like 4G and 5G, BSNL is currently managing with 3G and 4G services. However, after the expensive recharge, users are returning to BSNL again. In such a situation, the government has prepared a plan to bring BSNL back on track. For this, the government is going to spend a lot of money.
BSNL's face will changeIn Budget 2024, a huge budget of Rs 1.28 lakh crore has been given by the central government, which will be spent on telecom projects and technology updates of the government telecom company BSNL. It is worth noting that in the total budget allocation, about Rs 1 lakh crore will be given to BSNL and MTNL. Out of this, Rs 82,916 will be spent on technology upgrade and infrastructure changes of BSNL.
Where will the money be spentIn the financial year 2024-25, Rs 1,28,915 crore has been given by the government. Also, Rs 17 thousand crore will come from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). This Rs 17 thousand crore will be spent on telecom service providers, BharatNet and research and development. Out of this, Rs 17,510 crore will be spent on the pension of the employees of the Department of Telecommunications.
Cheap internet will reach villagesIf we compare the interim budget of FY 2025 with FY 2024, then a growth of 14.65 percent has been registered in it. In this budget, a growth of 70 percent has been registered in the budget spent on BharatNet. With the help of BharatNet, internet is being delivered to villages with the help of optical fiber service. In such a situation, in the coming days, wired internet connectivity will be provided to villages.
More emphasis on villagesThe government knows that internet access is necessary for villages. In such a situation, BSNL can be a good medium. For this, the budget of BharatNet is being continuously increased by the government. In the last financial year 2023, the government had given a budget of Rs 1,500 crore on the BharatNet scheme. In the same financial year 2024, this figure has increased to Rs 5000 crore. In the interim budget 2024, the government has increased the budget of BharatNet scheme to Rs 8,500 crore.
BSNL will launch 5G serviceBSNL can soon roll out 4G service across the country. For this, BSNL is working in collaboration with Tata Group. Also, BSNL is preparing to provide 5G service on 4G towers. This is called non-standalone technology. On the same lines, Airtel is offering 5G service. Jio is working on standalone technology.
