America’s largest space mission in 55 years, first war exercise in space announced

California: An American space agency created to protect the United States and its allies in space. The Space Force has partnered with private space companies Rocket Lab and True Anomaly for military missions in orbit. The mission was announced at a time when US Space Command commander General Stephen Whiting told the US Senate Armed Services Committee that China and Russia have turned space into a ‘war zone’.

He stressed that China is progressing very fast in the space sector. This is not the first time that an American organization has informed the government about China’s ambitious space plans. According to American officials, America had proved its superiority by landing Apollo 11 on the Moon in 1969. With this the ‘Cold War’ space competition with the Soviet Union ended. 55 years after this incident, the US Space Force has now started preparations so that a situation like South China Sea does not arise in the space area.

To meet the challenges, the US Space Force has launched the first of its kind ‘Victor Hayes Tactically Responsive Space Mission’. The mission will deal with attacks in orbit. In this mission, the spacecraft, built and launched by Rocket Lab, will pursue a satellite built by Colorado startup True Anomaly. Along with this, the Rocket Lab spacecraft will visit the True Anomaly in space and take close-up photographs.

The Space Force’s Space Systems Commander said the two companies are conducting a mission called ‘Victor Hayes’ to prepare them for how they will deal with rival satellites approaching their satellites. To address threats against military assets in orbit, Rocket Lab’s satellites are designed to remain on standby for launch at short notice. This military exercise is likely to take place in 2025.

Talking about the mission, Space Force Vice Chief of Space Operations General Michael Guitley said that when other countries place their assets in space, it becomes necessary to get information about them.

The Victor Hess mission will provide accurate information about the satellites of adversaries like China and Russia. For this, Rocket Lab will have a stand-by satellite while the True Anomaly’s spacecraft launches and performs observation tasks when the Space Force gives the launch order. If everything goes according to plan between the two, then both will change their roles.

China’s concern in space sector is increasing due to ‘Kill Web’!

During the 39th Space Symposium, General Stephen Whiting, Commander of the US Space Command, said, China is advancing at an exciting pace. Since 2018, they have tripled their orbiting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance satellites. With these systems, they have created a ‘kill web’ in the Pacific Ocean. This kill well is a dynamic network that collects intelligence on warfare capabilities across various domains, including land, sea, air, space and cyberspace. By 2023, the US has surpassed China’s spending on the space sector by $14 billion.
