There are Scheduled Castes in 31 States and Union Territories of the country, which are divided into 1241 ethnic groups. 76.4 percent of Dalits in the country live in rural areas and 23.6 percent of Dalits live in urban areas. There are a total of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies in the country. Although 84 of these seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, their political influence is more than 150 seats. Looking at the polling pattern of Dalit-dominated Lok Sabha constituencies, the BJP got 31 percent Dalit votes in 2024, according to CSTS data. Whereas in 2019, this figure was 34 percent. The BJP got 3 per cent less votes and its allies got 2 per cent votes. This time 19 percent of the Dalit community voted for the Congress. Allies of the Congress benefited greatly from the Dalit vote, especially the Samajwadi Party. Due to this BJP's seats have decreased. Looking at the results of the 156 Dalit-dominated seats, the opposition alliance won 93 seats and the NDA 57 seats. Of the 156 seats with Dalit votes, this time compared to 2019, the opposition won 53 seats and the NDA lost 34 seats.
