Alert on dengue and chikungunya in Jharkhand, instructions to identify patients by going door to door
After the rains in Jharkhand, the number of cases of dengue, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis and other diseases has started increasing. The health department has issued advisories for their prevention. Not only this, campaign director of National Health Mission, Jharkhand, Alok Trivedi has alerted all the civil surgeons and district surveillance officers and has given detailed guidelines to ensure prevention and treatment of these diseases by keeping a constant watch on them.
Apart from dengue, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis, the number of patients of diarrhea, typhoid, jaundice, hepatitis A and hepatitis B have also increased rapidly in hospitals in the state. In view of this, Alok Trivedi, campaign director of National Health Mission, Jharkhand, asked all civil surgeons and district surveillance officers to keep a constant vigil for the prevention and control of these diseases.

Rapid response team will visit at block level
The campaign director has instructed to form a District Rapid Response Team in case of disease outbreak at the district and block level. This team should visit the affected area. As soon as information about an infected person is received, prepare a line list and make proper arrangements for treatment. So that if an epidemic like situation arises, timely control can be done. Along with this, instructions have been given to monitor the trend of weekly data of symptom based, probable and lab reports under IDSP. On information of diarrhea and food poisoning etc., it has also been asked to take immediate action by sending a monitoring team to the concerned area.
Civil surgeons should identify patients by going door to door
All civil surgeons have been told that in coordination with the district VBD, MPWs will identify potential patients of malaria, dengue, chikungunya and JE in rural areas. They will be referred to the nearest health centers for disease management. In the area where information about patients is received, send a surveillance team and conduct a door-to-door fever survey to find active cases. After the fever survey, line listing of potential patients should be done. After the disease is confirmed in the lab test, a list should be made and case based surveillance should be done.

Fogging in case of outbreak
All civil surgeons should coordinate with the district VBD and prepare a detailed action plan for the larva density survey. Along with spraying larvicides to destroy breeding sites, fogging should be ensured in case of outbreak. To ensure the quality of spraying district-wise, a supervisory team should be formed up to the CHC level to monitor the spraying. Along with this, instructions have also been given to spread awareness about the symptoms and prevention of diseases for publicity.
