Agreement between India and Republic of Marshall Islands, 4 projects to be developed
New Delhi. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Monday gave a message of solidarity and cooperation during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to fund 4 community development projects in the Marshall Islands. Under these projects, India will build a community sports center, airport terminal, community building in the Republic of Marshall Islands.
The External Affairs Minister shared a video of this message on the social media platform ‘X’, in which he highlighted the expansion of bilateral relations under the Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC), saying that India and the Marshall Islands have a long history of friendly bilateral relations, which have expanded in the last few years under the aegis of the Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the Pacific Islands during the 3rd FIPIC Summit, he said the islands of the Pacific region are not small islands but large oceanic nations. We consider it our responsibility to support the Pacific Islands in their pursuit of sustainable development.
Jaishankar highlighted the potential benefits of the projects, saying these will certainly provide better infrastructure to the people of Marshall Islands. Speaking about the challenges faced by the Pacific Island countries, he emphasised India’s commitment to address common issues such as climate change, natural disasters, poverty alleviation and healthcare. Climate change, natural disasters, poverty alleviation and healthcare are common challenges that we must address together and India is privileged to be a partner of the Pacific Islands in this regard, the External Affairs Minister said.
