Iran News: Following the tragic demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday afternoon, the heads of the three branches of the Iranian government have agreed on June 28 as the date for snap presidential elections in the country. The date was confirmed during a meeting held at the Presidency office in Tehran.
The head of Iran's executive branch Mohammad Mokhbar, Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and head of the judiciary Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ezzi were present at the meeting. The session was the second meeting between the three officials within hours of President Raisi's tragic death in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province.

According to Article 131 of the Constitution of Iran, the country's top three officials are ordered to hold presidential elections within 50 days of the death or disability of the current president. Monday's meeting was attended by Iranian Vice President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehghan, Guardian Council Vice President Siamak Rahpaikand and Deputy Interior Minister for Political Affairs Mohammad Taghi Shahcharaghi, according to Press TV.
A timetable was set for the elections, allowing candidates to register from 30 May to 3 June, with candidates campaigning for 15 days starting on 12 June. The helicopter carrying Raisi and his associates crashed around Sunday afternoon.
