IPL 2024: Three LSG Auction Buys to Keep an Eye On

While RCB knocked LSG out of the competition in IPL 2022 Eliminator, MI also defeated LSG in IPL 2023 Eliminator and crushed their title hopes. After back-to-back playoffs finish in their first two participating campaigns, LSG would definitely want to take their game to a whole new level in an attempt to make a bid for the elusive title.

Notably, they offloaded as many as eight players who don’t fit their bill and signed six players at the IPL 2024 auction to bolster their squad. It remains to be seen how KL Rahul and Co will go about their business in the next season. Let’s now take a glimpse at the three key signings made by LSG at the IPL 2024 auction.

1. Shivam Mavi

The Noida-born cricketer represented Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2022 wherein he played 32 games and accounted for 30 dismissals at an economy of 8.71 including a four-wicket haul. KKR decided not to retain the pacer as they released him ahead of the IPL 2023 auction and Gujarat Titans purchased him for a whopping price of INR 6 crore.

However, he didn’t play a single game for the Ahmedabad-based franchise before he was released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. LSG recruited the services of the 25-year-old right-arm fast-medium bowler for INR 6.4 crore. The Lucknow-based franchise will rely on him to lead the pace bowling attack from the front and is seen as a perfect replacement for Avesh Khan.

2. Manimaran Siddharth

The Tamil Nadu spinner registered his name at the IPL 2024 auction for his base price of INR 20 lakh. Interestingly, RCB and LSG were leading the race to sign him before LSG won the battle by securing his services for INR 2.40 crore. For the record, M Siddharth was signed by KKR in IPL 2020 but did not get an opportunity to play.

In the subsequent season, Delhi Capitals signed him up before an injury ruled him out of the competition. The 25-year-old spinner will be raring to make his IPL debut this time around. In the 7 T20s he has played in domestic circuit, he took 18 wickets including 3 four-wicket hauls at an economy of 4.68, which goes to show that he is a sincere wicket-taker and contains runs.

3. David Willey

The Lucknow-based franchise acquired the English all-rounder David Willey for his base price of INR 2 crore in the auction. His all-round credentials make him a sought-after player in T20 leagues around the globe. Having been a part of IPL, PSL and BBL, he certainly knows the tricks and trades of the T20 game and will be looking forward to making the most in the given opportunities.

The bowling all-rounder boasts a terrific record in the truncated version, taking 294 wickets in 291 appearances including 4 four-wicket hauls at a pretty decent economy of 7.86. On the other hand, he scored 3830 runs including 2 centuries and 14 half-centuries at a strike-rate of 134.52.
