Exclusive: Sunny Hinduja says Sidharth Malhotra looked like ‘real Yodha’ on screen
In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, he also spoke about working with Sidharth Malhotra and Karan Johar.
‘YODHA WAS A NO-BRAINER FOR ME TO SAY YES TO IT’
In an exclusive chat with India Today.in, Sunny Hinduja spoke about how he came on board for ‘Yodha’ and his initial reactions to the script and character. He said, “The film was offered to me one and a half years back. It was very kind of Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha (directors) to offer me this role. They had watched ‘Aspirants’, and they were really happy with my performance. Also, the role that they offered was very special in the film. Also, it was a Dharma film, so it was a no-brainer for me to say yes to it.”
He added, “I met Karan sir [Karan Johar] before this, and of course, we all love him. He had watched ‘Aspirants’, and even he had really liked it. He admired the show and my work, and that, for me, was huge. So I was really happy and excited. I’ve always been a fan of him, and this was an offer I could not say no to. Karan also said we should work together more.”
‘BEEN A DREAM TO WORK WITH YRF AND DHARMA’
The actor further discussed his experience of collaborating with one of Bollywood’s biggest production houses, Dharma Productions, and the opportunities it presented for his career. “It was a special experience. It’s been a dream since childhood to work with YRF and Dharma, and it’s with God’s blessing that recently, I worked with YRF and now Dharma. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. I am only happy and grateful,” he told India Today.in.
‘DOING ACTION WAS REALLY CHALLENGING FOR ME’
The ‘Aspirants’ actor also spoke about his most challenging scene, “Doing action was really challenging for me. I have never done action before, but for this film, I had to take training. Our stunt team was called from South Africa, and they were meticulous in terms of action. They taught us really well. We did many fight rehearsals, and then we shot and choreographed the whole action sequence. I have pestered the action team to see if I was doing it correctly. I hope I have done justice to it in the film.”
‘SIDHARTH REALLY LOOKED LIKE A REAL ‘YODHA’ IN THE FILM’
Sunny also spoke about his ‘Yodha’ co-star Sidharth Malhotra. He said, “Sidharth really looked like a real ‘Yodha’ in the film. He is very sweet. In our first meeting, I was surprised when he told me that he had watched ‘Aspirants’. I was really happy. He is very down to earth, and very graciously we did our shoots. Even during our action sequence, we were very careful. We both were working in terms of making the scene and the action sequences perfect. That was our focus.”
Talking about the one thing he has learned from Sidharth, he said, “I have learned how to maintain oneself. He has taught me how to balance it out correctly.”
‘WOULD LOVE TO PORTRAY GURU DUTT, BALRAJ SAHNI’
Sunny Hinduja, who is known for his versatile performances, expressed his desire to portray legendary filmmaker and actor Guru Dutt in his biopic. Speaking to us, Sunny said, “I love biopics, be it of sportsmen, army men, heroes who have made a big change. As an actor, we can only play our characters to the best of our ability. But so many people have done such good work and many don’t know about it, so portraying them perfectly is what I aspire to do.”
He continued, “I would love to portray Guru Dutt Saab and Balraj Sahni Saab. They have done such great work and I would love to be part of their story. Guru Dutt Saab was a very different man, he did acting, and direction actually he would do the whole filmmaking. Even Kishore Kumar, was a composer, actor, writer, and singer, all in one. So I am also trying to be multi-talented like them, you never know what is useful and when.”
He further mentioned, “I had done a small drama, ‘The Black Tiger Of India’, on Ravindra Kaushik on Epic channel. I always wanted to do that role, how he served his country, gave important intel to our country, etc. He did such great work for his country and they are the real heroes. That’s what I feel and that’s why I want to do biopics.”
Sunny Hinduja has garnered acclaim for his performances in projects like ‘Aspirants’, ‘The Family Man’, ‘Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare,’ and ‘The Railway Men’. He is currently seen in Sidharth Malhotra’s, ‘Yodha’, which released on March 15.
