Why has BCCI banned certain colours on IPL jerseys? Preity Zinta reveals

PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, wicketkeeper Jitesh Shrma and co-owner Preity Zinta was also present during the event. While speaking at the event, Zinta shared her views on the jersey for the upcoming season also recalled Punjab’s old jersey which had a mixture of red and grey from 2009-2013.

However, the Bollywood actor disclosed that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) banned colours such as white, grey and silver since they matched the colour of the ball. Hence, the franchise had to change their choice of colours and are now seen in complete red.

“Earlier, we had a combination of red, grey and silver but then the BCCI banned silver, grey and white due to sighting issues with the ball. Hence, we went ahead with red and this year we have the best combination with red,” said Zinta at the event.

Notably, Punjab didn’t have a memorable season in 2023 as they finished on the eighth spot on the points table with six wins from 14 matches having 12 points to their name. They’ve also reinforced their squad ahead of the season having bought seamer Harshal Patel, all-rounder Chris Woakes and swashbuckling batter Rilee Rossouw in the mini-auction.

In the upcoming season, Punjab will start their campaign against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, March 23 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. They will further lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in the first phase of the tournament. The BCCI has announced the schedule for the first 21 matches of the tournament and will announce the remaining will be unveiled once the General Elections schedule is out.
