Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Rugged & Cheaper Than A Fortuner, All Details Here

Though the model could be the ‘Land Cruiser’ moniker, this upcoming SUV will be based on the Japanese automaker’s IMV 0 platform. It is also worth mentioning that the upcoming ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ will be smaller and more affordable than the Toyota Fortuner SUV.

While this is very interesting, what is even more exciting is that the ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ is already in the final stages of development and the model could go on sale before the end of 2024.

However, the upcoming ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ SUV will be initially launched in Thailand, followed by other global markets. Since the demand for SUVs is on the higher side in India, we expect this upcoming Toyota SUV to eventually make its way into India.

In terms of design, the ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ will share many design details and styling cues with the Toyota Hilux Champ pickup that was recently launched in Thailand and Indonesia. This means the ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ will look quite rugged and appealing.

On the inside, the dashboard design is expected to be the same as the Hilux Champ, but we expect to see a mix of more premium materials to justify the positioning of the ‘Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’ in the Indian automotive market.

It is also worth mentioning that the wheelbase of the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be the same as the Innova Crysta at 2,750mm. As such, we expect the third-row seating to be decent enough for short journeys.

In terms of powertrain, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is most likely to use the tried-and-tested 2.4-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine in the Hilu Champ puts out 148bhp and 400Nm of torque.

Also, the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will come with a choice of 6-speed automatic and 5-speed manual gearbox options. We also expect both options to come with an optional 4WD system.

Toyota could also offer the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ with a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine in the Toyota Fortuner petrol puts out 163bhp and 245Nm of peak torque.

When launched, we expect the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to compete against the likes of Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio N, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV.

Thoughts About The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is an interesting vehicle and we expect the model to be another success story for Toyota in India. However, the launch of this model could have a negative effect on the sales figures of the Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.
